Create Room For Good - Letters of Love
, Ashley Puriri
Use your creativity and extra time at home to spread love and sunshine by writing letters to the elderly. Most nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospices and senior centers cannot accept visitors at this time and many residents are isolated from family and very lonely. We've connected with the organization, Love For The Elderly, to get your letters of love where they are needed.
COVID-19 UPDATE (accurate to-date): The CDC, World Health Organization, and Surgeon General have indicated that there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 is being spread through the mail.

Help us reach our community goal of 500 letters

We can make a big impact together! Look for updates on this page and through social media. Follow #CreateRoomForGood to see participation. Add to the count by sending a picture of your letters to rae@createroom.com or share on Facebook or Instagram, tagging @createroomco and using #CreateRoomForGood. Invite your friends and family to join in. Get the kids and grandkids involved. We can all make a difference by fighting loneliness with love.

Ready to get started? Follow these simple instructions:

1. Letters must be legible (large print) and handwritten. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your card as what you’d like to receive.

2. Avoid religion, if possible. Your letter should resonate with anyone.
3. Exclude the date (day, month, and year).
4. Embrace creativity! Have fun with this. Recipients love it when the letters are personal and unique. We encourage you to make your letters detailed, thoughtful and heartfelt.

5. Be kind and thoughtful (more than talking about yourself). This is a one-way letter exchange, meaning you will not receive a letter back, so remember that no reciprocation attached is part of the beauty of your act of kindness, and the recipients don’t feel burdened by feeling obligated or being unable to respond. Our advice: pretend like it’s the start of a conversation. What kinds of things would you want to talk about to a stranger? Perhaps tell them about yourself, maybe say a joke or a riddle and let them know that they are loved.

6. Envelope your letters if you can! It’s so much nicer to open up an enveloped card, don’t you think? If you’re sending more than 1 letter, leave your enveloped letters unsealed and unstamped and put them in a larger envelope or box to send.
When your letters are ready, you can (1) reach out to your local facilities to donate them directly OR (2) send them to Love For The Elderly at the address below. They will collect your letters and mail them to elders in senior communities across the globe. These include nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospices and senior centers.
