5 habits to boost creativity
, Jordan Contino

Do highly creative people have similar habits? Absolutely. Here are the five most important habits to cultivate your creativity.

1. Spend Time Alone

A metaphorical “room of one’s own” is a basic need for many creative people. Now, science has reinforced what the work habits of countless crafters have demonstrated: Time for solitary reflection truly feeds the creative mind. When alone, it is easier to block out external distractions and focus on our inner imaginations. Our best creative ideas are often solo acts.

2. Create Everyday

Start paying attention to what stimulates your creativity, when crafting and not. Do those things everyday. Creativity is like a muscle — the more we create, the stronger our creative skills become. Additionally, practicing your craft over and over again is the only route to mastery.

3. Craft in an Inspiring Space

Loving what we look at inspires our own creativity. The energy we feel from our environment flows into our work. Some Dream Box owners fill their tote fronts with color coordinated patterned paper. Others insist on leaving their totes transparent to see their supplies. Clearly, visual inspiration is different for every-one. Make sure you work surrounded by visual inspiration.

4. Get and Stay Organized

People often think of creators as messy and disorganized. But in reality, the most successful creators have very effective organization systems. Order and chaos is one of the many paradoxes of the creative process. With an effective system, you will be able to see your supplies and access them when needed. It truly frees you up to create. Make it a habit to clean up after you craft.

5. Keep a Creativity Journal

Some say that there are two types of creators- those who struggle to find ideas and those who have too many. Our research shows one commonality among those overflowing with ideas. They keep a creativity journal. A journal is an excellent tool you can use to keep your creativity alive. It should focus on helping you to solve problems, brainstorm ideas and practice creativity.
